GENEROSITY OF MAORIS
♦ : — HELP FOR R.S.A. MEMORIAL ti- ' ■■■ FORTHCOMING RACE MEETING As a result of a deputation con- - sisting of Dr. S. J. Thompson and Messrs. H. B. Bur.dekin and N. Thomson, which waited on the stewards of the Otaki Maori Racing Club yesterday, further eyidence was given of the wonderful generosity and co-operation of tlie Maori people with all matters cofi- v nected with the welfare of ex-ser-yicemen. . - v It will be remembered that the Levin Racing Club has generously agreed to give the whoie of the " , proceeds of the forthcoming race * meeting to be held on Jtine 8, -to the R.S.A. Memorial Fund, and as . the Levin course was not in a condition to enable the meeting to be held' there, arrangements had to be made to race at Otaki. As a result- of the deputation's visit, 'not only , will there be no rent charged for the use of the cOurse, but the Otaki Maori Racing Club is defraying Uil costs o'f getting the course ready and clearing it up after wards, so that in effect there will be no charge whatever for the use of the course for this meeting. Not only is this a practical gesture which is deeply appreciated by the R.S.A., but it is a wonderful lead to what may be done to assist "this worthy -cause.
