J. ARTHUR RANK BUYS INTO N.Z. THEATRES
Received Wednesday, 8.50 p.m. LONDON, March 13. Mr. J. Arthur Rank has bought a controlling interest in the Kerridge cinema circuit in New Zealand. The Daily Telegraph's film correspondent says Mr. Rank now controls a»ver a thousand t'neatres throughout the Empire. I.The Kerridge cinema circuit in New Zealand owns, controls or has an interest in over 120 theatres. Mr. Kerridge*, recently left New Zealand for London," and no doubt the cabled announcemenfc 'v is a result of negotiations on the spot with Mr. J. Arthur Rank, who is now one of the dominant figures in the film world— and that ircludes Hollyood. He has announced his intention of making the British film industry the biggest and best in. the world, and has the approval of the British Government, one reason being the huge slice of dollar funds recjuired to pay for Hollywood films imported into England.]
