Personal Mr. and Mrs. Waterson, of Otaki, are at present on holiday. • . Dr. and Mrs. Neate, who have been on holiday, have returned to Otaki. Miss Lena Grant, of Auckland, is at present staying with Mrs. Don. Grant, of Te Horo. Mr. and Mrs. "Wally" Bryan, who have been on holiday in the north, have returned to Otaki. Mr. W. Connor "has severed his connection with Mr. G. S. Walton's stable and in future will ride as a free lance. He intends remaining in Otaki. Mr. Connor can scale 7.10. Among a small party of dependants of R.N.Z.A.F. personnel which arrived yesterday by the Rimutaka was Mrs. F. P. Freeman, wife of Flying-Officer F. P. Freeman, Otaki. The death occurred early this morning of Mrs. W. Vaughan, an olU and respected resident of Otaki. The deceased recently suffered a stroke. Her husband and daughter died some time ago. A son, Harry, lives in Auckland, and a brother in Petone.

Among the deep-sea fiishermen who recently visited the north were uhe well-known Petone bowlers — Messrs. H. Emmett and J. May— who were most successful. Among the fish landed was a swordfish weighing over 400 lbs., which is stated to be the heaviest aught this season. Captain Brown, who has been secretary of the Hospital Board at Otaki for the past two years, during which time he has faithfully and capably carried out his duties, has aecepted a position as secretary of the Buller Hospital Board. Mr. Brown leaves for his new quarters next month, when he will carry with him the best wishes of his many friends. *
