ANTI-INFLUENZA VACCINES
NEW roEK, March 10. Anti-influenza vaccines evolved as a result of wartime research freed mankind from uncontrollable influenza epidemics, Dr. Wendell W. Stanley, of the Rockefeller Medical Research Institute, announced after receiving the American Chemical Society 's medal for outstand ing contributions to the chemistry oi viruses. Dr. Stanley said that vaccines are now being produced for civiiians. The production methods are such that even if a totally unknown strain of influenza virus appears protection can be developed in a few days. Vaccine research was under taken owing to fear that a repetition of the 1918 outbreak might cripple the American war effort.
