GREAT FINISI1 IN QUP.
By Telegraph-
NEW PLYMOUTH, Mareh 10. The first day of the Taranaki Jockey Club's Autumn Meeting was held ou Saturday in fine weather" and before a large attendance. The track was fast. The totalisator handled £46,935 10s, eompaTed with £29,085 th'e first day last year. After the Taranaki Cup an inquiry was held into alleged interfereiiee by Hippodrome to Eort Royal. AlteT hearing evidence, the judicial committee decided to take no action. The finish to the Taranaki Cup . was one of the best seen on. the course for a long time and in a desperate set-to four horses flashed aeYoss the line togther. Seafire, who won by a head, came on the outer in the str'aight withya sustained run which just secured him the verdiet over Hippodrome, who ran a great race after being last with a mile to. go. Mr. Rosa and Sir Bian, practically on terms, were third and fourth a head behind Hippodrome, Sir Bian seemed to be a shade unfortunate in the running. Ilulabaloo ran.a fair race to be fifth, but Blaek Plato, Fort Royal, Autoscore and Master Ted failed to stay. Dink's Own tailed off. A Decisive Win. Good Bay beat the sprinters in the Flying Handicap decisively, winning comfortably from Quick Draw and Black Beret. Dranibuie got away badly, and Omahina, who was strongly faneied, ran poorly. Towards the end of the day the totalisator failed to function as desired, and after seven races had been run under win-and-place the eighth was run under single pool betting.
