Serious Grass Fire
The Foxton Fire Brigade, assisted by hundreds of workers, fought a grass flre which reached serious dimensions, along the Beach Eoad yesterday. It is reported to have started iu a maerocarpas hedge on the west side of Mr, Hine's property and, with the stiflf wind blowing, quickly travelled back to the saijd ridge and parallel with the road for a quarter of a mile. Before it was arrested 100 acres and more of, tinder-dry grass had been burnt, along with fences, cream stands and othei similar constructions. Sparks also set alight to the grass on the opposite side of the road and here several houses were endangered. It proved to be a very anxious time and the work of the brigade and volunteers is worthy of inuch praise. _ *
