"Wiiat is a traadiddle. and'liow is it spelt? These points cropped up a few days ago in a discussion between two learned men who pride themselves on their knowledge of the English language. One insisted 'that there was only one "v" in the word, the other, quite correctly, that there are two. Curiously euough, it had not occurred to either of these puudits to loolc up a dictionary. When they referred their argumont to an independent authority, he consulted a dictionary, and gave thein the correct spelliiig, as well as the meaning — "a slight lie, fib, or equivocation. " With this definition in hand, students of current affairs can give themselves an ,interesting hobby, countin'g- up the number of tarradiddles perpetrated in a 40-liour week by certain eminent public figures.
