INTEREST-FREE LOANS

The niouthJy meeting of Ihe Directors of the Palmerston North Co-operative Buildiug Society v\as lield on Tuesday evening under tlie cliairinansliip of Mr. Fred. Jackson. Ballots for interest. t'ree loans were held in Groups 11 and 14, the successful niembers being Mr. C. A. Hyde, £600; Mrs. M. E. Smith, £200; Mr. F. Robinson, £1000, all of Palmerston North. Business was conducted in all groups, and further advances for home building approved. In the general department ioans totalling £2500 were. approved after the valuer's repo'rts -on the securities od'ered had been considered. In all cases these loans were sought to enable young people to acquire properties of their own. The secretary reported that shares in Group 15 were still being taken up and ' the Group was reaching a stage where it wojild soon be full. The popularity of the Society was in evidence by the nuniber of enquiries being received for shares. The directors devoted .some time to considering the aetivities of the Society generally, having in mincl the uecessity of rendering the utmost service to the niembers. The chairtnan reported to the meeling that Mr. M. A. Eliott was making a good recoverv from his operation and this news was received with considerabTe pleasure.
