BLACK-MARKETEERS OF MEAT SURPRISED

SYDNEY, March 4. The first blow in New South Wales following Mr. Chifley's declaration of war on black-marketeers of meat was a raid by more than 40 detectives, Customs officers and Prices Commission inspectors shortly after dawn today on j the State abattoirs at Homebush. At a given signal the men moved into the ' abattoirs, and surprised sellers in the j mutton and beef section found them- 1 selves being accosted and searched by men carrying warrants. There was , only one case of serious resistance. About 20 salesmen were interrogated : and officials seized dockets and papers found on some of them. The papers and evidence will be examined'to determine whether proceedings will be taken.
