Received Sunday, 9.15 p.m. CALCUTTA, March 3; Police with lathis chargcd a large crowd demonstrating in front of a mill at Pondicherry. The demonstration followed a -decision hy the mill authorities to requisition workers under police protection to replace strikers. Thousands of labourers carrying C'o'mmunist fiags marched to the mill to protest. > The head of the combined. police and military services sent an armed . contingent to the mill area to prevent the demonstrators from entering the Euro- ' pean quarter. The s'ituation at Jubbulpore, where Indian Signals Corps niemhers struck, is easier.
