MR. WILLIAM THOMAS
Deep and widespread regret will be felt throughout the district at the news of the death of Mr. William Thomas, principal of Horowhenua College, which occurred at his residence in Levin this morning after a lengthy illness. The late Mr. Thomas came to Levin to take the position of senior assistant in the secondary department of the former Levin District High School, and when Horowhenua College opened in 1940 he was appointed its first principal. In that position he played an outstanding part in the preparation of the syllabus and the organisation of the school in all its features, despite the many obstacles which the war brought. The deceased gentleman exercised a wonderful influence over the college, and its success to-day is a tribute to his work. He was beloved by every pupil who passed through the school and held in the highest esteem throughout the district. The sympathy of a wide circle of friends will be extended to Mrs. Thomas in her loss.
