"THE CHRONICLE" EXPANDS

To-day "The Chronicle" appears in a new form as a district paper which will give readers more news than has been published hitherto, and which advertisers will welcome as providing wider coverage and more advantageous opportunities for display purposes. In the past ten years the Horowhenua district has made remarkable progress. The primary industry has been developed in all its branches to the point where it flourishes probably more vigorously than in any other part of New Zealand, while in recent years the plan of decentralisation from the Wellington metropolitan area has brought a considerable number of secondary industries. Easy of access as it is by road and rail with the capital, the district should see very great industrial expansion

in the next few years if the necessary encouragement is given. With a warm and equable climate, Horowhenua has and will continue to attract attention as a residential area, striking support for which is to be seen in the recent census figures, which placed it among the Dominion's highest population increases with 24 per cent. In keeping with the progress and changing needs of the district, "The Chronicle" has not only increased in size, but now circulates throughout Otaki and its environs, previously served by the Otaki Mail, which ceased tri-weekly publiction on Friday, and also in Shannon and the surrounding areas, where the Shannon News was distributed bi-weekly until war restrictions and the shortage of manpower forced it into recess. The greatly enlarged size of "The Chronicle" will enable the quantity of reading matter in each issue to be largely increased. More space will be devoted to local and district happenings, which readers will find of considerable interest, and which are not available in other journals, while arrangements have been made for the receiving of a very complete cable and telegraphic service recording important day to day events in New Zealahd and abroad. Giving, as it does, effective coverage of the whole area from Paraparaumu to Shannon, advertisers will find "The Chronicle" an immensely valuable medium for reaching the people. The development recorded to-day has necessitated a notable addition to the plant in the installation of a flat-bed rotary press manufactured by the Duplex Printing Press Company, Battle Creek, Michigan. It turns the eight-page paper. out folded and ready for delivery at the rate of 3,500 copies per hour. This brings "The Chronicle" into line with the most modern printing plants outside the main cities, and also gives scope for the further rapid expansion of the paper as desired.
