Offer ludicrous — tutors
Tutors at Christchurch Polytechnic voted at a lunchtime meeting yesterday to reject a Government wage offer to teachers in technical institutes.
The Association of Tutors in Technical Institutes has claimed a 33 per cent. increase and an amalgamation of the bottom two grades. The Edu-
cation Services Committee has refused the claim, and offered nothing on top of the State Services Commission increase. The president of the Christchurch branch of the association, Mr David Booth, said the present situation was “ludicrous.” “A polytechnic-trained nurse with three years
experience would earn in the order of $3OOO less if she joined the technical institute service as a tutor. As a tutor, she would be responsible for the actions of many students in a clinical situation,” said Mr Booth. The association and Education Service Committee will meet again on Monday to discuss the claim.
