Wool recovers in Chch sale
The wool market is still rising and falling with the movement of the New Zealand dollar, and at yesterday’s sale in Christchurch the market indicator , rose 9c a kilogram ereaSy. It had fallen 9c the previous day, at a sale of Auckland wool in Wellington, and so yesterday the indicator returned to the level set at the Timaru and Invercargill sale on Wednesday, at 341 c greasy.
Until Thursday, the lowest point for the season was 338 c
The chairman of the Council of Wool Exporters, Mr Michael Moss, explained yesterday that a rise or fall of one United States cent in the value of the New Zealand dollar (as happened on Thursday and yesterday) is a change of 2 per cent in the dollar's value which translates to a 6c or 7c a kilogram (greasy) effect on the auction market
Yesterday good Halfbred wool sold quite well, according to Mr Moss, compared with prices being paid for equivalent wool in Australia. However, all poorer style wool is being discounted by the trade because of an overabundance of poorer types. A feature of the Christchurch sale yesterday was the activity of buyers for New Zealand mills who were keen
to secure quantities of fine fleece before these types finished for the season.
