More calves for I.H.C. funds

The annual Calf Scheme to raise money for the Society for the Intellectually Handicapped has attracted 1000 more calves than last year. Almost 1800 calves have been given to I.H.C. compared with 721 for the ,1984-85 season. - In return for giving calves, farmers are given a new pair of gumboots and entered in national and local raffles which include five trips for two to Australia.

The Canterbury branch administrator of 1.H.C., Mr Peter Holes, said the response to the scheme

was encouraging. About 60 calves had been given by North Canterbury farmers. A total of $BOOO had been raised after 48 of the calves wpfp sold. Mr Holes said that some farmers had offered to rear calves for an extra few months to increase their value. Mr and Mrs Roger Voice, of Oxford, won the draw in the national raffle. They will travel to Australia with four other couples in June.
