Valentine’s Day spirit praised
PA Hamilton New Zealanders are becoming much more romantic about Valentine’s Day than they were years ago, says Jenny Cooper, whose prize possession is a card her hus-band-to-be gave her 40 years ago yesterday. “It is very small but it has stood the test of time,” said Mrs Cooper. The Melville housewife said that when she and her husband, Jack, came
to New Zealand she noticed “a definite lack” of the Valentine’s Day spirit.
“People didn’t have a clue,” she said. “But it has come away beautifully now.” A flower auctioneer, Mr Mike Desmond, said that red roses, a favourite Valentine’s Day gift, were retailing at anything from $3 to $7 in Hamilton yesterday, depending on size and quality.
