Public Notices MACKENZIE COUNTY COUNCIL CLOSED FIRE SEASON PUBLIC NOTICE is hereby given that under the provisions of the Forest and Rural Fires Act 1977, that the lighting of fires in the open in the whole of the MacKenzle County area East of Burkes Pass including Fairlie Township Is prohibited from February 13 to March 31,1986 unless the restriction is revoked or otherwise varied. The only exception to this notice will be that fires may be lit in the opentietween the hours of 6 p.m. and 10 p.m. each day, and that permits will be required during these hours. Any person wishing to light a fire in the opbn must obtain a permit from their nearest Fire Warden. Fire Wardens will be available for advice and policing duties. Picnic, barbeque and rubbish fires are permitted at any hour during the day provided such fires are In properly constructed containers and provided that all vegetation and combustible material is removed from the ground within three metres of the container. While this order is in force no person shall set on fire or cause to be set on fire in the open air any trees, timber, bracken, gorse, stubble or other plants or debris from forest or land clearing operations or any other combustible materials whatsoever except as set out as above. In all cases the person lighting a fire in a Closed Fire Season shall remain in attendance at the fire until It Is fully extinguished. Possession of a permit or lighting a fire within the permitted hours in no way relieves the person lighting the fire from the full responsibility of keeping the fire under control. Authority to burn as set out above during the permitted hours or following the issue of a written permit Is automatically cancelled if the N.Z. Forest Service invokes Section 20 of the Forest and Rural Fires Act 1977 and thereby prohibits the lighting of ALL fires In the open. Such action is normally only taken In extreme conditions and would be at short notice and the prohibition will only apply on the day of notification.
