Live coverage of race

The Whitbread Round-The-World yachts leave on the third leg of their race today and as they set off for Punta del Este, In Argentina, Television New Zealand will be linking up with radio New Zealand to provide extensive live coverage of this spectacle.

“We will be doing a simulcast along the same lines as the one done when the yachts left Portsmouth, England,” says the producer/director, Graham Veitch. “It will be a marriage of two broadcasting systems.”

The television coverage begins at 10.30 a.m. on One, 30 minutes after the radio coverage.

Veitch says there will be plenty of close-ups of the yachts and radio communications have been set up with a number of them, including Lion New Zealand and NZI Enterprise.
