Continuous TV planned
PA Wellington New Zealand will have 24-hour television at week-ends starting soon. From early April TVNZ is extending its hours so that TV One will be on air continuously from 9 a.m. Friday mornings until midnight on Sundays. From Monday to Thursday, TV One will be open from 9 a.m. to midnight, instead of 10.30 a.m. to 11 p.m. as it is now. TVNZ is still to announce details of the extra programming, but a good proportion of it will
probably be rock videos (from after “12 O’clock Rock” on Friday nights to the early hours of Saturday morning) and latenight films. The controller of programming, Des Monaghan, said TVNZ had been following a world trend and progressively extending hours for some time as it was able to identify audience demand. “Television is one of people’s key leisure options and we want to make sure we’re there when they want us.”
