Good Romney sale
Canterbury Romney breeders had a very good ram sale in Gore last month, with Mr Nigel Chamberlain, of Ellesmere, setting a record for ram prices in his first run of four sold.
He received $12,000, $13,000, $14,000 and $18,500 for his first four sold and during the auction he sold seven rams for an average of $9280. A top price of $30,000 was received by G. L. Robertson, of Gore.
The Haines Family Trust, of Leeston, received a top price of $6500 and an average of $4630; C. M. Chamberlain, Springfield, sold one ram for $3000; O. J. Adams, Ashburton, sold 10 rams for an average of $2780 with a top price of $8000; D. Giddings, Fairlie, sold six rams for an average of $2660, with a top price
of $lO,OOO for export to Brazil; D. Cameron, Leeston, sold a ram for $1800; R. W. Oakley, Ashburton, sold two for an average of $1200; S. F. and E. D. Croy, Oxford, sold a ram for $llOO and C. T. Burrows, Culverden, sold nine for an average of $9OO with a top price of $2400.
