Prices down at wool sale
PA Wellington Bidding was restricted and hesitant at the combined Auckland and Wanganui wool sale in Wellington yesterday. Compared with the Timaru-Invercargill sale on Wednesday, 35 to 37 micron B/C style wool was in buyers’ favour, and C/D style up to 2>/ 2 per cent cheaper. Second-shear 35 micron 50/100mm wool was down 2 per cent for B style and up to 5 per cent cheaper for B/C style. Autumnshorn wool fetched premiums. Average 28 micron lambsjiwool was dearer,
average 29 micron lambs’ wool was in buyers favour, and poorer styles fell 2% per cent. The market indicator was 332 c a kilogram (greasy) and 447 c (clean), and the A.W.A.S.P. 336.03 c (greasy) and 451.09 c clean. The Wool Board bid on 22.2 per cent of the offering of 21,846 bales and had 10.8 per cent sold or passed to it The main buyers were eastern Europe, and New Zealand merchant scourers. Fine crossbred lambs, 28 micron, 50/75mm to 50U00mm: Average 462 to 469, poor to average 442 to 448, poor 409 to 421. Medium crossbred lambs, 30 micron, 50/75mm: Average 440 to 451, poor to average 423 to 435, poor 407 to 417. Medium second-shear oddments, 35 micron, 50/75mm to 50/100mm: Poor to average 363 to 373, poor 347 to 354, discoloured 328 to 342.
