UBS man short
PA Auckland The round-the-world yacht ÜBS Switzerland will begin the third leg of the race a man short after an accident injured a crew member on Wednesday. A fall down steps left Schiees Albert, aged 34, with badly tom ligaments in his left ankle, ending his hopes of continuing with the yacht when it leaves tomorrow morning. Albert, who sailed for Switzerland in the Tornado Class at the 1976 Olympic Games and was selected for the Olympics in Moscow four years later, says he has been told the injury will take between a week and 10
days to heal. The ÜBS skipper, Pierre Fehlmann, while sorry to have one of his crew laid up, is keen to bring the yacht’s complement to 16 before the start. “We need someone (male) who has a passport, can speak some French and has had some experience either in maxis or dinghies,” said Fehlmann. “Hopefully there is someone out there able to meet those requirements, and would like to join us for the third leg to Punta del Este. “It is too late to ask someone to join us from Switzerland."
