Maori welcome to high school

Sir, — Congratulations on your coverage of the Maori welcome for third formers at Aranui High School (February 11). However, special congratulations to the school itself for taking biculturalism seriously. Taha Maori is not just a subject one studies. It is a whole way of doing things that affects the life of the total institution. Events such as these give us real hope that pakeha society and its institutions can change and become truly bi-cultural. Our hope is that other educational institutions in Otautahi (Christchurch) will follow the lead that Aranui High is giving. This is the sort of progress that all our institutions should be aspiring to. Kia kaha, kia toa, kia manawanui. — Yours, etc., SUE SPINDLER, MAKA GIBSON. February 12, 1986.
