Netball clean sweep
NZPA staff correspondent Washington
The young New Zealand netball team completed a clean sweep of three short games at Toronto yesterday. After a heavy day of coaching and training, the team faced three local sides, playing each for two 15-minute halves.
The first, against a City of York second ranked side, the New Zealanders
won, 51-4. Next they played a senior team called Metro, beating it, 49-3.
The last and harder game was against the top ranked City of York team, the New Zealanders finishing 38-7 winners.
“That was a much more even game than the result would indicate, the opposition fighting right until the finish,” said the New Zealand coach, Yvonne
Wittering. She said that the younger members of the New Zealand team were now gaining in confidence as the Canadian tour progressed.
“The younger players are now taking the initiative as well,” she said.
Today the New Zealanders move on to Edmonton in Alberta, playing games there tomorrow.
