Turf club fields strong in form runners
The Riccarton Turf Club will circulate $27,000 in stakes over nine races for its annual on-course race meeting at Riccarton today.
The substantial lift in stakes on last year’s programme has met with a pleasing response: fields for several races are well stacked with form runners.
They will race for $4OOO in the Godavari “1600,” second leg of the double and treble, and the field contains a sizeable list of possibilities, from Beau Magnum at the top of the handicap, to Vendee at the bottom. Slick Million, a winner at three of his last four starts, might wind up favourite, but it is doubtful if he will dominate the betting.
Firetint, a last-start winner at Riccarton, that following a placed run at Trentham, looks equal to the task of mastering top weight of 57kg in the Mulken Mining Handicap, first leg of the double.
