Rugby Union; appeal welcomed
PA Wellington The pro-South Africa sports lobby group, 5.P.R.1., has welcomed the New Zealand Rugby Union’s decision to appeal to the Privy Council over a key issue in the legal , battle which led to thecancellation of ilast year’s: All Black tour. ,
Mr Pat Hunt, spokes- j man for the Society for . the Promotion of Rights' of Individuals, said it was, a travesty of justice that ' the full case had never, been heard.
The union is appealing, to the Privy Council on.the question of whether, two Auckland lawyers, » Philip Recordon and. Patrick Finnigan, had, legal standing to take a case against the union.
Mr Hunt said the case; was an important one af-. fecting the rights ofsportsmen to play with, whomever they choose. »
