Chance for public to judge classic cars
Christchurch people will have an opportunity to see a selection of some of the world’s best classic cars in Cranmer Square on Sunday when at least 15 one-make car clubs will vie for individual and team honours in the fifth annual concourse. Each club will enter three examples of its particular marque and the club that scores the most points with its threesome will be acclaimed the winner. Christchurch motor firms will give awards in five classes, each covering a period of automotive history. For example, the first class covers the years between 1885 and 1931 while the fifth and most recent class runs from 1971 to 1986. Although the judging will be done by a panel of experts, the public will have an opportunity of selecting what it considers to be the best car in the concourse. Each person who attends the concourse will be eligible to vote, along with entrants in the event itself. In addition, a number
of exotic classic cars not entered in the concourse will be displayed. Organised this year by the Daimler Car Club, judging of entries should be completed by 1 p.m. on Sunday and the club suggests that members of the public wishing to get a close look at the various cars should visit the concourse early in the afternoon. There will be no charge for admission and the concourse, which is now an established annual event in Auckland, will give Christchurch people an unparalleled opportunity to see a comprehensive assembly of some of the world famous makes, as well as rare ones, in pristine condition.
