Spending increases
Spending on civil defence by the Canterbury United Council will increase up to 64 per cent during the 1986-87 financial year. The costs of a new regional Civil Defence headquarters in Christchurch, “one-off radio equipment, and increases in wages account for al-
most half of the increase. The council’s civil defence committee must get the approval of the council before the money is allocated. A total of $112,000 is sought. The percentage increase exceeds the council’s aim of keeping budget rises to about 20 per cent.
