Sri Lankan hits unbeaten century
NZPA-Reuter Colombo Roshan Mahanama hit a magnificent unbeaten 111 to lift Sri Lanka to a respectable eight for 185 off 44 overs in the fourth one-day cricket match against England B. Mahanama struck nine fours and a six in his 166minute innings which lasted 121 balls, rescuing the home side after they had collapsed to 61 for five off 24 overs. The Sri Lankans made a disastrous start, losing their first three wickets with just 10 runs on the board. The medium-pacer, Tim Tremlett, took two wickets and the fast bowler, David Lawrence, one. But the sixth-wicket pair of Mahanama and Keerthi Ranasinghe steadied the innings with 76 runs off 14.2 overs before Ranasinghe was caught by the captain, Mark Nicholas, off the medium-pacer, Derek Pringle, for 26. Mahanama continued to take the fight to the bowlers as Sri Lanka added 70 in the final nine overs to give themselves a useful total. Scores: Sri Lanka 185 for eight off 44 overs (R. Maha*; nama IJI not out) v. Eng® land.
