Bumbling agent returns
David Jason (above), the dithering Granville in Ronnie Barker’s “Open All Hours,” is the star of the series “The Top Secret Life Of Edgar Briggs,” which begins a repeat screening on Two at 7 p.m. Popular in the mid-70s, Edgar Briggs catalogues the adventures of a most unlikely secret agent — one who almost manages to make his American counterpart Maxwell Smart, look competent David Jason has since gone on to greater heights. His role in a new series of “Open All Hours,” now screening in Britain, and also in the series “Only Fools And Horses,” made him Britain’s most popular television comedian last year.
