568 ewes sheared in nine hours
PA New Plymouth A Taumarunui shearer, Alan Donaldson, has set a world record of shearing 568 ewes in nine hours. Donaldson, aged 27, maintained a back-break-ing pace in a woolshed on the remote Raurimu block owned by the Lands and Survey Department, shearing Perendale ewes one judge described as “heavy and stroppy.” He was shearing according to new national shearing committee rules recently introduced to standardise record attempts. The judges were Gordon Pope, Southland, Vince Nesdale, Kimbolton, and Lance Kana, of Aria, King Country.
