Bushman turns himself in
PA Rotorua An unemployed bushman, Paul Patterson, aged 26, was remanded without plea to February 18 when he appeared before Mr Tony Israel, J.P., in the District Court at Taupo yesterday charged with the murder of Wallace Tahau, aged 38, at Taupo on Saturday. His address was listed as care of Waiohau, Whakatane. Bail was not sought and Patterson was remanded without plea to February 18. Earlier yesterday morning, Patterson had walked into the Taupo police station with his lawyer, Mr Anthony Christiansen. Mr Tahau died after suffering shotgun wounds to the chest in a double shooting at a Tauharepa Road house about 4 a.m. on Saturday. Audrey White, aged 24, suffered a, bullet wound to the thigh in the incident. She is now reported in a comfortable condition in Taupo Hospital. A full-scale search was: made after the shoot-out in the Murupara area, but was scaled down on Sun--day. ' . , A funeral for Mr Tahau was held at the Waitahanui marae on Monday. ;
