Italian yacht’s fortunes fall
NZPA-AAP Fremantle The fortunes of the defending world 12 metre champion Victory ’B3, fell further in the protest room on Monday night. Already disqualified for breaking Monday’s start and not restarting, the Italian syndicate’s second string yacht was also disqualified by the international jury. The jury upheld a protest by Australia II against Victory ’B3 for failing to keep clear of the Bond syndicate yacht while tacking.
It also dismissed a reverse protest in which Victory ’B3 claimed it was given insufficient room when rounding a mark. Adding to the former British-owned yacht’s woes, it crossed the line ninth in heat three on Monday after leading for the first three legs. Victory ’B3 now languishes in last place of the fleet of 14 on the championship table. Another protest by French Kiss against True North, of Canada, was dismissed.
