Task for bowler

PA Palmerston North The odds will be stacked against the reigning champion and home town favourite, Phil Skoglund, when the Manawatu Lion Masters bowls tournament begins at Palmerston North tomorrow. Fresh from his fine second placing in the world indoor bowls championships in Scotland, Skoglund will have to contend with jet lag, a classy field and the record book. He won the Masters last

year after 10 attempts. But the records show noone has won the event twice. Other previous winners taking part are Peter Beiliss, who reached the semi-finals of the indoor championships, Ivan Kostanich, Bruce Ballinger and John Murtagh. Also in the field is Nick Unkovich, the runner-up in 1982 and 1983. The final is scheduled for Sunday.
