First wheat shipment
The first shipment of wheat this year from the Port of Lyttelton is expected to be loaded during the next two to three days. The 4548-ton Ngapara will take on 5000 tonnes of wheat at Cashin Quay beginning this morning. She will become the first vessel to use the port’s new silo system. The system was originally based on the breakwater, but its location was shifted to connect with the bulk-loading facility. The move was part of an improvement project that has seen the silo capacity increase from 2000 to 13,000 tonnes. Two new silos are under construction. One is expected to be finished at the end of the week while the other should be finished by the end of March or early April. The Ngapara is expected to depart for Auckland later this week.
