Gondola group formed
Heathcote. Valley Presidents decided lasVeyejiing to form a community association, mainly to" oppose the Mount Cavendish gondola project. About 150 people who $2OO towards a fighting fund. A committee of 16 was elected. The meeting' unanimously agreed to jell local members of Parliament and the Heathcote County and Christchurch City councils of the residents’ feelings. Several speakers expressed concern that Heathcote’s town-planning committee had already recommended a change to its District Scheme to accommodate the project on a site that is now zoned rural. Similar criticism was levelled at the City Council, a committee of which has recommended that the council approve the siting of the gondola on the reserve on Mount Cavendish. 4
