Youngsters steal 15,000 rides

By PETER COMER Youthful burglars have executed the hydroslide heist of the century. They ran, or possibly rode their getaway bicycles, off with $37,500 of tickets to the Jellie Park hydroslides after breaking into an office at the park on Monday night. The 15,000 $2.50 tickets were packed in a box about four times the size of a shoebox. The “book value” of the tickets makes the theft probably the biggest by children in New Zealand. Like older thieves, the culprits will have trouble laundering their spoils. The manager of Jellie Park Aqualand, Mrs Rima Goldsmith, hopes that publicity will make it too risky to sell the tickets in the school ground or down at the local video games parlour. Neither will they be able to enjoy 15,000 rides on the hydroslide. The colour and numbers of the stolen batch of tickets will be easily recognisable to staff at Jellie Park, according to Mrs Goldsmith. The 15,000 little plastic tickets will cost Jellie Park Aqualand quite a sum to replace, however, and Mrs Goldsmith hopes 'that they might be left somewhere, if not returned, when they are found to be useless in the wrong hands. How did Mrs Goldsmith know that the culprits

were rather young? “Because they took soft drink and lollies as well.

Since when have adult burglars been stealing lollies?” *
