Beauty business Standards set for therapists

Beauty therapists will soon have standardised training and qualifications. A New Zealand Association of Beauty Practitioners is to be set up on February 18. Representatives of the profession will meet with the Authority of Advanced Vocational Awards and the Health Department to agree to a unified syllabus, a code of ethics, monitoring of con-

tinuing standards, judicial procedures and a basic wage structure. The Council intends to keep a Beauty Register of recognised practitioners. This area has been discussed with the Health Department as a result of their interest in beauty therapy treatments where blood can be drawn, such as electrolysis using needles, ear piercing, leg waxing and eyebrow plucking.
