‘Workhorses’ in dry dock
Two of the “wbrkhorses” at the Port of Lyttelton, the dredge Peraki and the floating crane Rapaki, are in the dry. dock having their annual spruce-up.
The vessels are expected to remain in the dock until about the end of the month.
Both are having a coat of paint, an overhaul, and a survey of engines and ship’s, gear.
The Peraki and the Rapaki usually dock together near the start of each year, and spend about a month having a survey. Shipping companies are told well in advance by the Lyttelton Harbour Board when the Rapaki will not-be available.
The.,: dark colour and flat deck of the 60-year-old Rapaki make her an easily recognisable vessel. The brown-and-black PerakiJ which is 26 years old, has also been a fami-
liar vessel at port for many years. ARRIVALS Coastal Trader (midday), 6736, Auckland (N.Z.5.A.1.L.). DEPARTURES Coastal Trader (8 p.m.), 6736, Dunedin (N.Z.5.A.1.L.).
