Explosion at house, five hurt
Five youths were taken to hospital after an explosion at a house in Rowley Avenue, Hoon Hay, last evening. 1
Four were admitted to the bums unit at Burwood Hospital, two of them with serious burns, according to St John ambulancemen. The blast, which is thought to have Involved petrol, happened about 8.30 p.m. in the laundry of a private house opposite the Rowley Avenue shopping centre. The five victims, aged in their early teens, were found by the mother of one who called the fire and ambulance services.
The police were not involved, but fire safety officers are investigating the accident.
The youths were carried out of the charred laundry on stretchers. One was treated at. hospital and discharged. The names of the four admitted were not available last evening.
