Aranui wins four basketball titles
The Aranui club, of Christchurch, won four of the six titles at the annual Ashburton basketball tournament during the week-end. Aranui won the men’s and women’s open grades, as well as the men’s and women’s A grade. In the men’s open grade final Aranui beat Continental Caterers Ranglora, 51-32, with lan Webb scoring 18 points and Korry Ritsma 12. For Ranglora, Dave Edmonds was the top scorer, with 12. His fellow New Zealand player, John Hill, was sidelined because of injury. In the semi-finals, Ranglora beat Admiral Lodge Checkers, 54-46, and Aranui beat Ashburton Rebels, 44-41.
Aranui A had an easy win over Nocturnal Opossums,, a > composite Christchurch and Ashburton side, 43-18, in thewomen’s open final. f In the semi-final, Aranui ! won 44-14, against Minties j (Burnham) and Opossums, beat Rebels, 35-26. , In the men’s A grade sec-' ' tion, Aranui B beat 35-27, and in the women's A •; grade, Aranui B won, 29-16/1= against Ranglora. The men’s B grade winner was Ranglora, 31-16, over ■. Media (Christchurch), and in ? the women’s section, Smugglers (Christchurch) edged out Rang! Ruru, 17-15.
