Sydenham and Riccarton will meet in the final of the Atlantic and Pacific knockout cricket competition after relatively comfortable semifinal victories at Hagley Oval on Sunday. Sydenham, winning the toss, made 169 for four in its 40 overs, with notable contributions coming from Peter Kennedy, the man of the match, Kevin Congdon and Bob Carter. Marist made a bold attempt to win, but needed 18 to win off the last over and fell seven runs short Old Collegians required 17 runs from the final Riccarton over to reach its target of 136, but gathered just five runs. Riccarton had a small target to defend, Bill Lawrence and Grant Hansen doing a good job with the ball for Old Collegians. However,
Old Collegians struggled to get on top of a tight Riccarton attack, and only an unbroken tenth wicket stand of 58 between Lawrence and Roger Fuller enabled Old Collegians to get close. Denis Aberhart, the Riccarton captain, was named man of the match. Scores:— Sydenham 169/4 (P. Kennedy 62, K. Congdon 43, R. Carter 32 not out, K. Julian 26) beat Marist 163/8 (J. Duming 27, D.
