Ah, the joys of adolescence

Argh! The joys of parenting adolescents ... David Hill’s new radio series, “The Boy,” is a father’s fond look at the complexities of his 14-year-old son. "The Boy” delights in the mundane procedures of growing up in a caring New Zealand family.

David Hill is now a hot name in radio writing. When the pre-school programme “Grampa’s Place” won a prestigious international award in Japan recently, it was with a David Hill script. His satirical tales of life in small-town New Zea-

land, “Moaville Magic” and “More From Moaville,” enjoyed large, enthusiastic audiences when broadcast and have been published, with illustrations by the cartoonist Eric Heath.

“The Boy” is written in a slightly different vein,

closer to the heart, perhaps, but still not far from the funny one. The 12-part series, read by the Wellington actor, comic and expectant father, Michael Wilson, is broadcast on the National Programme at 9.15 a.m. on week days.
