Suzuki workers on 4-day week

PA Wellington Coachworkers at the Suzuki plant in Wanganui were now working a fourday week on five-day wages, Wellington’s “Evening Post” newspaper reported on Friday. Suzuki’s marketing and planning manager at Wanganui, Mr Richard Cheals, declined to comment on the introduction of the four-day week, but said stockpiling was not the reason.

He said workers and management had come to an agreement about the shortened week, and staff were upset about publicity it had received.

Spokesmen for Ford, General Motors, and Todd Motors in the Wellington area all said that their companies were not considering a four-day week.
