Sports injuries
Sir,—Your article on sports injuries and the A.C.C. begs the question "why not return to a full user-pays system?” In these days of market forces it is silly to have one section of the economy artificially supporting another. If not farmers then why the sports industry? The insurance industry is well equipped to get out and sell insurance to all and sundry. It is relatively cheap and would promote more responsibility among sportsmen as they would be paying for themselves. If it is good enough for the egg board to have its wings clipped then it is good enough for the Accident Compensation Corporation.— Yours, etc., J. KELLY. February 6, 1986. f
