Bus driver’s success caps 'good day out’
A Christchurch Transport Board bus driver of five years experience, Lloyd Riesterer, won the annual Caltex Bus.Roadeo yesterday. The contest held in conjunction with the Wings and Wheels Classic at the Wigram airbase, attracted 61 entrants. It was a test of all the skills bus drivers use daily, such as U-turns, pulling into bus stops, reversing, and stopping within specified distances. Mr Riesterer W he
was surprised at his win. “I thought it would be a good day out, so I took my family out to see it,” he said. It was the first time he had entered the competition. Mr Riesterer won $3OO, a pewter goblet, and a trip for two to Wellington to coincide with the Wellington Caltex Bus Roadeo later this year, where he will compete as Christchurch’s representative. Second place-getter was David Pitt, and Linda Purves was third. She won
the event two years ago. A maintenance electrician in the board’s main office, Graeme Withell, won the section for entrants who are not bus drivers. He was awarded a $5O Caltex petrol voucher and a free weekend at a Transport Board staff holiday house. The prizes were presented by the general manager of Caltex Oil (New Zealand), Ltd, Mr Stevenson, and the chairman of the Transpprt ’■ Board, Mr Patrick Neary.
