Motor-cycle titles resolved
PA Palmerston North Four out of seven national motor-cycle road racing titles were resolved at Manfeild yesterday with the final round yet to be run, at Pukekohe on April 13. Round four of the fiveround New Zealand Auto Cycle Union motor-cycle road race series saw Roger Freeth, Robert Holden and Brent Jones wheel away with their respective trophies while the side-car duo of Howard Gregory and Tony Price snatched victory from the series leaders, the brother and sister team of Andrew and Anne Krippen, in a memorable race.
The Wellington Kawasaki pair managed only a third to the Gregory/Price team yesterday lost their slender three-Jsoint lead and the title
in one blow. Robert Holden maintained his unbeaten record of wins In the senior production class to sew up the title. The battle for second-place honours, between Bob Toomey, Aaron Slight and Eddie Kattenberg, remains however. The “Flying Doctor*” Roger Freeth, of Auckland, easily wrapped up the Formula One title for the second year in a row. Holden has an 11-point cushion for second over ail ahead of Yamaha's Ken Steadman. And a Christchurch racer, Brent Jones, took his Yamaha TZN 250 to another convincing win to resolve the Formula Two class battle for 1986. Second-place honours will be fought out at the final at Pukcjbhe in April.
