Lea Vance may contest Brandon series
From
G. K. YULE
Auckland
Lea Vance probably earned himself a start in the John Brandon series at Addington Raceway next month when he won the National Bloodstock Pace at Alexandra Park on Saturday. He led all the way and appeared to win with something in hand when he advanced his record to four wins and eight placings from 21 starts. He is raced by Mr Charlie Elliott, of Morrlnsville, where he is trained by Graeme Harris. He is closely related to Alba’s Reign, the top-ranked two-year-old of last season. Lea Vance, another of the growing tribe of
winners sired by Vance
Hanover, has shown noticeable improvement in recent weeks, according to his connections, who are keen to bring
him to Addington. There was South Island interest in two of the winners at Auckland on Saturday. Nato, raced in partnership by his trainer, Tony Perucich, and Mr Ron Dench, of Belfast, won the slow-class trotters’ event quite convincingly from Midnight Special and the Christchurchowned Sharadel, which had every chance.
Three races later Monte Leone justified favouritism for the Allakasam Pace when he shaded Astrologer by a neck.
Monte Leone, a six-year-old by Noble Lord, is trained at Taupaki by Frank Cooney for Mrs Kathleen Edge, of Kaituna, and Mr Roy Henley, of Invercargill. He has now won five races and close to $17,000 for them.
