Arrests after rape likely
The police expect to make several arrests after a woman was raped at her home in Spreydon early this week while her husband was forced to watch.
Detective Sergeant Neville Higgison said that six Mongrel Mob gang members entered the house, occupied by the woman, her husband, and two children, aged nine and 12, at 3 a.m. on Monday. They carried several weapons, including an axe and a ceremonial sword. The intruders subdued the couple after a short struggle, and one of them raped the woman. The children were in another
room at the time. The six intruders left after about 30 minutes, taking with them household property valued about $3OOO, including a stereo and a video recorder.
Detective Sergeant Higgison said the six suspects had been identified. They belonged to a Mongrel Mob chapter outside Christchurch, although he would not say where they were from.
The suspects and the victims had been in con--tact in the past,, he said.
The woman was not otherwise hurt, and her husband was not seriously hurt, in the incident
