Duvalier flees
NZPA-AP Port-au-Prince, Haiti President-for-life JeanClaude Duvalier of Haiti left the country aboard a plane about 3.45 a.m. (9.45 p.m. New Zealand time) yesterday for an unknown destination, sources at the international airport said. In Washington, a State Department official con-
firmed the departure, and said Mr Duvalier, aged 37, was flown out of Haiti, in a United States Air Force plane. Mr Duvalier has been authorised to go to France “before going on to another country,” the External Relations Ministry announced in Paris, according to Agence France Presse. Earlier report, page 10
